Services - What to expect

We offer a therapeutic exercise solutions to keep you moving forward.

Follow–up visits are private one to one with the physiotherapist and will last about 55 – 60 minutes. Your treatment will consist of 100% exercise rehabilitation and will introduce a systematic progression of ‘exercises’ on and off the Pilates equipment.

Any identified imbalances related to your condition will be targeted using a combination of mat exercises and movement on the Pilates apparatus.

The treatment is very hands-on with the physiotherapist and the training process adjusted according to how your muscles are responding. No two sessions are ever the same!

The treatment focuses on re-establishing the ‘nerve to muscle’ connections through carefully selected therapeutic exercise.

Your muscles are re–learning how to support the spine and how to work in harmony to produce movement from the inside-out!.

Feedback about what you are doing and Practice of what you are doing are the two hallmarks of ‘learning’, so you (and your muscles) will be provided with lots of feedback and practice during your session.

Not only will your muscles be re-learning but you will be getting a education in the fascinating interplay necessary to produce movement.

Biofeedback technology may be used as necessary to aid in this process.  Be prepared to focus as it is the brain to muscle link we are programming -  It is hard work!

Despite the hard work, there can be a sense of calm and well-being after a session as your muscles slip into their natural function.

An important part of your treatment is your follow-up outside of the clinic and between sessions.

A 10 – 20 minute home programme of exercises and concepts for you to continue with independently will be introduced during the sessions.    This home programme is modified as you make progress.

Compliance with this component allows continuation of treatment between clinic sessions and will speed up the rehabilitation process considerably.

It is important to note that you will be seen by a Registered Physiotherapist exclusively.

We do not use support personnel such as physiotherapy assistants or Pilates instructors.

Physiotherapists are trained in the assessment and treatment of muscle and movement pathology and as such your ongoing treatment should progress more quickly than if seen by support personnel.

As BET PhysioPilates is a evidence - informed system, we take care to analyse our outcomes to ensure that we are providing effective but cost efficient services.

Sometimes if the problem is not very complicated all that is required is 1 – 3 sessions.

However, research and our ongoing statistical analysis over the past 15 years has shown that 8 – 15 treatment sessions over a 3 – 4 month period may be necessary to help resolve a chronic (orthopaedic) problem and returning you to doing the things you want to do.

Whether you need 3 or 15 clinic treatment sessions, you should be prepared to make an initial 8 - 12 week commitment, as your treatment will include exercise drills to follow up with at home.

After discharge, ongoing practice with your home programme for another 3 - 4 month period will help solidify the training results.

Invest in you and the retraining of muscle patterns that often have taken many years to develop!

Depending on your objectives, you can consider what Joseph Pilates himself said:
"You will feel better in 10 sessions, look better in 20 sessions and have a completely new body in 30 sessions."
