In general, therapeutic training is most effective in the sub-acute or chronic stages of an orthopaedic condition. Many of our patients come to us with a long history of chronic or recurring problems and having tried many other treatments with incomplete results.

For neurological conditions, treatment is most effective when there is a moderate to high level of physical and cognitive function.

When there is an imbalance in the pull of muscles about the body even when the imbalances extend away from the site of pain – the problem may not be the symptom itself but the underlying and resulting biomechanics (the way the body moves). Even if this is recognised, it is hard to address with most conventional health care treatment. To correct the mechanical problem and to return to optimal function it is important to look beyond the immediate area and the presenting symptoms to seek what is often the contributing root cause(s)

12 – 90!
There is no age barrier to the ability to train with this Pilates - based approach. The BET PhysioPilates system unlike many other Pilates approaches breaks down conventional ‘Pilates exercises’ and movements into smaller, more simple movements. The approach is very gentle but technical and can be progressed to more advanced training. There is no strain on the joints or muscles (only a strain on the brain!). We have found that patients can learn and change muscle, posture and movement abilities at any age.

NO! Our experience is that this is not important. Although this is an active approach and there is expectation that you will be involved and invested in the treatment process, it is not really ‘exercising’ – it is essentially about ‘re-programming’ select muscles and movement patterns. Anyone can do this. Anyone! Many people who never liked exercise or are intimidated by ‘fitness Pilates’ environments find themselves enjoying this Pilates approach.

You will start to see initial results fairly quickly – within the first 3 sessions. You should notice a change in something – your pain, muscle tightness, ease of movement….
After a few more sessions and as part of the muscle ‘reprogramming’ process, you should notice change in muscle tone around your tummy, upper back and hips and an improved posture that is typically maintained long term.

Yes! It is sometimes helpful to work with other disciplines concurrently and if it is felt that consultation with your physician or with another other health care or fitness professional will help your progress we will make recommendations. With your consent we will share relevant information to your case.

No. We focus on individualised therapeutic and corrective exercise and this is not consistent with sessions provided in class format.

Retraining movement patterning needs high quality equipment that provides a smooth, friction-free and controlled resistance to movement. Our equipment is manufactured in the USA by Balanced Body, California. In our view it is the highest quality and most aesthetic Pilates apparatus on the market. Its simple design and construction is based on Joseph Pilates original designs with input from Physiotherapists to modernise its applications.

Come in comfortable clothing – long shorts, yoga pants, T-shirt or even your street clothes are fine if they allow you to move comfortably. No shoes are necessary. We have a small change-room for you to change and leave your belongings. You will not sweat (except your brain of course!) so you will not need to take a shower and you can carry on with your day following your session.

Your care is 100% from a registered Physiotherapist. We do not utilise Physiotherapy Assistants (PTAs) or Pilates instructors.

The initial assessment is 60 – 75 minutes in duration. Each follow up treatment session is 55 minutes in duration. The sessions are private, one on one with the physiotherapist. Unlike most physiotherapy clinics we do not book more than one patient per hour.

- Treatment is provided at all times by a Registered Physiotherapist.
- Treatment is individualised and guided by a comprehensive assessment and ongoing reassessment, and the response of the client
- Treatment is systematic and progressive
- The BET PhysioPilates system is based on sound scientific rationale and the results of published research and the ongoing statistical analysis of treatment outcomes
- Treatment is ‘hands-on’ – i.e. the control of movement and muscle activity is manually guided by the physiotherapist. We do not follow exercise  “prescriptions” or merely supervise pre-prescribed Pilates exercise protocols
- Independent home exercises and drills are part of the treatment process
- The principles for learning motor skills is incorporated into the approach and biofeedback technology is utilised as needed to assist in the learning process
- Simple but effective and time efficient home follow-up exercises are considered part of the treatment process
- The BET PhysioPilates system has been used successfully since 1993 and is used internationally (Hong Kong, New Zealand, Switzerland, British Columbia) and benefits from the input of internationally trained physiotherapists working internationally.
- You will re-discover control of muscle you did not even know you had!,  and learn the role of these muscles in providing a base for efficient movement. This will initially be a very conscious’ process but it does become automated with practice.

This process:

- Corrects an underlying mechanical problem related to muscle patterning
- Prevents recurrent problems
- Improves and changes posture
- Improves muscle tone and flexibility
- Teaches independent management – empowering!
- Addresses the root cause - long lasting results
