In general, therapeutic training is most effective in the sub-acute or chronic stages of an orthopaedic condition. Many of our patients come to us with a long history of chronic or recurring problems and having tried many other treatments with incomplete results. For neurological conditions, treatment is most effective when there is a moderate to high level of physical and cognitive function. |

When there is an imbalance in the pull of muscles about the body even when the imbalances extend away from the site of pain – the problem may not be the symptom itself but the underlying and resulting biomechanics (the way the body moves). Even if this is recognised, it is hard to address with most conventional health care treatment. To correct the mechanical problem and to return to optimal function it is important to look beyond the immediate area and the presenting symptoms to seek what is often the contributing root cause(s). |

NO! Our experience is that this is not important. Although this is an active approach and there is expectation that you will be involved and invested in the treatment process, it is not really ‘exercising’ – it is essentially about ‘re-programming’ select muscles and movement patterns. Anyone can do this. Anyone! Many people who never liked exercise or are intimidated by ‘fitness Pilates’ environments find themselves enjoying this Pilates approach. |

You will start to see initial results fairly quickly – within the first 3 sessions. You should notice a change in something – your pain, muscle tightness, ease of movement…. |

Yes! It is sometimes helpful to work with other disciplines concurrently and if it is felt that consultation with your physician or with another other health care or fitness professional will help your progress we will make recommendations. With your consent we will share relevant information to your case. |

Retraining movement patterning needs high quality equipment that provides a smooth, friction-free and controlled resistance to movement. Our equipment is manufactured in the USA by Balanced Body, California. In our view it is the highest quality and most aesthetic Pilates apparatus on the market. Its simple design and construction is based on Joseph Pilates original designs with input from Physiotherapists to modernise its applications. |

Come in comfortable clothing – long shorts, yoga pants, T-shirt or even your street clothes are fine if they allow you to move comfortably. No shoes are necessary. We have a small change-room for you to change and leave your belongings. You will not sweat (except your brain of course!) so you will not need to take a shower and you can carry on with your day following your session. |

The initial assessment is 60 – 75 minutes in duration. Each follow up treatment session is 55 minutes in duration. The sessions are private, one on one with the physiotherapist. Unlike most physiotherapy clinics we do not book more than one patient per hour. |
